Cold winters call for movie nights with BFI

As the nights draw in all I want to do is activities that make me cosy: drinking mulled wine, spending Sundays eating ginormous roasts next to a fire and marathon watching movies while wrapped up in blankets and ridiculously festive socks. This is my winter happy place and my movie choices reflect that – happy, silly, feel good glittery productions with a cracking good story.  As it happens BFI will be showing a whole array of classic romance films in cinemas across the country this Winter as part of their LOVE season which includes screenings (Brief Encounter, When Harry met Sally, Clueless.. the list goes on and on) and loads of  fantastic events from talks to dance classes!

Plusnet sent me some goodies to host my own film night using the BFI Player : items to pamper, treats to be munched and a fantastically curated range of films to curl up with including Submarine, Eternal sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Shakespeare in Love and Forgetting Sarah Marshall. Dream!

I loved receiving my package (and having a reason to make my husband watch some really girly films with me!) and it got me thinking.  As you may know I’m a big fan of handmade and experience gifts – why not combine the two into awesome film-night presents – each made to fit the genre of your giftee’s favourite movies.  Romance is covered – thanks PlusNet and their lovely package of pampering goodies but how about these:

Gangster: Kick back to a classic gangster flick while enjoying: a mini bottle of whiskey, a pack of cards, some gold coins, a skinny black tie and some shades

Big Hit Musical: Get involved with a showbizzy hit (Chicago, The Producers…) with a package that contains: a kazoo (to play along..obvs), some throat sweets (just in case), party poppers for that big finale and lots and lots of sparkly eye makeup

Scary: Lock the doors, pull up the sheets and brave your favourite scary movie with a bag of gummy teeth, a black eye mask to hide behind when it gets too much, a cross to ward off any curious demons, some holy water *yeah fine or gin* and a little capsule of fake blood so you can scare the hell out of your movie buddy when they leave the room to go to the toilet. Mwahahahaaa
