A day at The Knitting and Stitching Show

A few weekends back I went to the Knitting and Stitching Show at Alexandra Palace with my mum.  This is a huge (seriously it’s massive – bring snacks, buy coffee massive) show celebrating all sorts of glorious makers, designers, artists and hobbyists in the knitting and stitching and generally crafty worlds.

It has a fairly big focus on shopping but I was delighted to also find some beautiful exhibition spaces, talks and demos programme (although we missed every talk because we found these so late), and there were also some fantastic workshops on offer.

Some of my eyecatching highlights:

I was really glad we booked in for a workshop as it gave us a chance to go somewhere a little bit quieter and less heaving, to sit down, and to pour some of our creative energies into a quick and easy make.  Our workshop was printing a tote bag with Colouricious.  We used beautiful hand carved wooden stamps from India and selected a few contrasting colours to print our designs.

I loved playing with adding glitter to the fabric paint and I was really pleased with the result.  It also led to me going and buying a load of wooden stamps of my own (sorry not sorry) so I’m going to have to make sure I make the most of these making cards and printing fabric too!

Did you go to the Knitting and Stitching Show? What were your highlights?

  1. Ah, the K&S – it really is massive, isn’t it? I left with a headache the first day 🙂 I love it, though – all the energy and the loveliness is just uplifting!

I worked there every day for a few hours on the Association Guild of Weaver, Spinners and Dyers and even brought my wheel with me one day. It was super fun showing people how yarn was made! And it still makes me smile when I see someone’s face light up when they finally realise how it’s done 🙂

    1. It’s huge!! I was actually pretty relieved to sit down for the workshop! We walked past the guilds but it was towards the end of the day when we were a bit in autopilot 🙂 there were so many gorgeous creations there. I would have loved to see the wheel! Glad you had such a great weekend x

      1. Hah, you were brave for tackling it in one day! I would have loved to take a workshop too, that’s in the cards for next year 😊 Maybe I’ll catch you then with my wheel! x
