Crafternoon How-To: Bunting Cake Toppers

Watching the Great British Bake Off at the moment ALL I can think about is cake cake cake! No party or celebration is complete without some good old fashioned baking but if you’re not much of a baker (like me) you can spruce up a shop bought bake with this cute bunting cake topper. This makes a great addition to cakes and desserts for any occasion – just change the message as you need and fill your foodie world with bunting.

You Will Need

  • Cocktail sticks or wooden skewers
  • Needle and thread
  • Rubber
  • Scissors
  • Cardstock
  • Pens

Step One: Snip It

Cut out little triangles from your cardstock to create your bunting flags. Make a paper template first to make sure they’re all the right size.

Step Two: Pierce it

Place a rubber underneath your card triangles one by one and use your needle to make two small holes in the top two corners. You’ll use these to string your bunting together

Step Three: Word It

Write out your message – one letter per triangle.

Step Four: Sew It

Thread your needle and sew your triangles together (check they’re in the right order!). Make sure you leave about 10cm of thread spare at either end.

Step Five: Secure It

Using the spare ends of your thread tie your bunting tightly onto your cocktail sticks.
