Origami Garland

After spending a lovely afternoon at a tanabata workshop I ended up with a stack of bright, beautiful origami stars.  I figured the best way to display them would be as a rainbow garland and rather than simply stringing them together I also made pink, purple and green paper beads to hang between the stars.

I love making paper beads – it’s such a simple technique but so quick and you can be really creative with your colours to create some beautiful effects.  if you’ve never made them before check out my tutorial here.  For these beads I went with simple bold, single coloured paper BUT my source of paper-jewellery inspiration is the beautiful work of Quazi Design: an incredible sustainable design company that work with artisans in Swaziland to create jewellery and homeware from waste magazine, supplied by a partner factory.  Gaze at their website – it’s a thing of beauty.

I had some beads left over so I think I’ll turn them into earrings… watch this space…
