For Christmas this year I was given a subscription to Mollie Makes *squeal* . One of my new year’s resolutions was to use everything crafty that I’d been given for Christmas and as all good Mollie Makes fans will know the magazine comes with a lovely crafty how-to gift each month! This month’s dropped through my letter box and I was delighted to discover that the gift was a chic little mug cosy designed by Samantha Stas.
I’ve had mug cosies on my craft list for ages. They’re so simple to make, really easy to personalise and a great way to feel that bit cosier while spring is still stubbornly refusing to show. Samantha Stas’ design featured a neon pink felt base (who doesn’t love neon!!), grey and white diamonds, and metallic thread that was my personal favourite aspect of the design for adding a little pop.
In fact the project took so little time that using some other bright and bold felt pieces I had knocking about I made another mug cosy with a more masculine take on neon (i.e. less pink, more orange, yellow and turquoise!)
The premise of making a mug cosy if you want to have a go is simply a rectangle that fits snugly around your mug with a tab on the end that overlaps about 2 cm so you can fasten your cosy. The decorate your cosy however you please, and attach velcro to the underside of the tab and where it will sit on the main cosy (you can see this detail above on the right hand side and how it will fit in the image below).
Voila! Anyone for tea?
