Crafternoon How-To: Glitter Cushion Covers

Fancy cosying up with a cheeky rom-com (or Breaking Bad) this Valentines?  Here’s a quick and easy tutorial to glitz up your cushions for a movie date with your favourites!

You Will Need:

  • 2 Cushion Covers
  • Iron on glitter sheets
  • Scissors
  • Iron

Step One: Design

Decide what design you want.  You could use words, shapes (try not to make it too complicated unless you want a challenge when it comes to cutting).  Some great ideas I came across in my search for inspiration were “His” and “Hers”, “Hold me” and “Squeeze me”, heart-shaped lock and key motifs, or you could always adapt a good old “Keep Calm and Carry On” to fit with what you’re after.  I realised at this stage that I should have had more than one glitter sheet because my cushion covers were quite big so I adapted and went for one design with words: “hug me” and one with a few hearts – I later added to this cushion with the offcuts.

Step Two: Sketch N Snip

Draw your letters and shapes onto your glitter sheets and cut out.  The way you do this will depend on the sheets you buy – if they come with a layer that is later peeled off you can draw onto this, or if you need to draw onto the back because your glitter isn’t covered just be careful with how you draw the letters as they’ll need to be back to front.  Tracing paper can really help with this – draw your letters out, flip the paper over and draw back over the lines to transfer to your sheet.

Step Three: Stick

Position your glitter pieces onto your cushions and iron into place!

Because I still had some pieces of the glitter sheet left I then added to my hearts design with the word love and some smaller hearts.  I lay them out so it seemed like the hearts were almost flying out of the word (although you can be the judge of how successful I was)

Step Four: Snuggle up up up and away!
